Fun at Mad Science Holiday Club!

Looking for something to do in the school holidays? Prefer a well thought out, timetabled day rather than free play holiday clubs? Do you enjoy learning about the world around you?

For your parents :-

"Mad Science is a leading science enrichment provider. We deliver unique, hands-on science experiences for children that are as entertaining as they are educational. We have franchises located around the world, teaching millions of children about the fun in science through after-school programs, in-class workshops, camps, birthday parties and special events.

Mad Science encourages scientific literacy in children in an age when science is as vital as reading, writing and arithmetic. We encourage parents, teachers and schools to contact a local Mad Science to find out more about services in your community. Mad Science doesn’t stop there. We also mount and tour large-scale theatrical productions and Kids Club to ensure that kids keep learning in school and out of school."

With an older brother needing peace and quiet for GCSE revision Dorothy and friends were dispatched to a nearby community centre today for the first of five fun-filled days of "Mad Science".

The programme looked exciting, and seemed to have something for everyone! You can find the full details of the Easter Programme Dorothy is on here but in brief the plan for our week of activities was:-

Monday - Construction and Destruction
Tuesday - Animal Antics
Wednesday - Energy Burst
Thursday - Bubble Mania
Friday - Dinosaur Adventure

On Monday we designed and constructed packaging to protect an egg when dropped, designing bridges and watched explosions. We built houses and bridges from lolly sticks and designed paper aeroplanes. It was incredibly well organised, well planned and so much fun.

Tuesday was Animal Antics which was even MORE fun - if that's possible! We learned about jaws and claws, lots of animal facts and gigantic creatures like the Blue Whale. It was even bigger than our "laboratory"!  We then went outside to search for animal tracks and made our own plaster casts of duck feet. (below)

At the end of each day, the Scientists in charge give you a scientific gift to take home! Yesterday was a Chinese finger trap, and today, 3D glasses and cards.

Dorothy and her friends are already planning to return in the Summer for more Mad Science, but in the meantime they have a few more days of excitement this week!

Mad Science is definitely the best holiday club we have been to!
